The State of Silencer Legislation

We all got excited in January when Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC) proposed the Hearing Protection Act (H.R.367) to the House. Finally someone was doing something sensible for shooting sports. I mean, there is actually something that Europe is ahead of the US on. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any movement on that act since Feb. You can check out the progress here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/367

This wasn't the end, in June we had a bit of activity that was promising when a draft of Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act (H.R.2406) had a scheduled hearing and was championed by a bipartisan effort between Rep. Jeff Duncan and Rep. Gene Green (D-TX). Unfortunately, that hearing was cancelled and there's no evidence of it coming back around.

So far nothing that has been proposed has gotten anywhere. I would be awesome if our representatives actually worked for us and did their job, alas, that's just asking too much.

So, if you are waiting to purchase a suppressor, you might want to rethink that. At least make yourself heard...contact your representatives and you can also keep informed by signing up on the American Suppressor Association (ASA) mailing list.
